I live in the West Midlands in the UK with my wife Caroline. We have three married children - Richard, Michael and Sarah - and three (and counting!) wonderful grandchildren.

I was born and brought up in Tanzania and went to school (many years ago!) in Arusha, a town 50 miles from the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. I have always dreamed of climbing Kilimanjaro and now that I have recently retired, I have the opportunity to turn the dream into reality (provided the old legs and lungs can make it)!

I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for two charities close to my heart – Compassion and Starfish Malawi. I sponsor a Compassion child, Patrick, who lives in Moshi, close to Mount Kilimanjaro. I will be visiting Patrick and his family during my trip.
