This photo was taken during my first ever trip to Africa, as my husband and I spent our honeymoon at the beautiful Mafia Island, off the coast of Tanzania.

During our short stay, we had the chance to visit the nearby village of Utende and its local school. I didn't have children at the time, but couldn't help asking myself how the school was able to do so much for the children with so little.

Now as a mother of two, I can't imagine what it must be like not being able to provide for your children's most basic needs.

By taking part in the Kilimanjaro challenge, I hope to make a small difference to children served by SOS in Arusha. I'll be returning to Tanzania under quite different circumstances, but the rewards will no doubt be immense. It is also important to me personally to show my own children how privileged they are and how one can always find time and energy to help those in need.
